Commercial Ebb and Flood Table

Good seed starting is critical to a successful Hydroponic garden. The best way I have found to do that is with a Ebb and Flow table with pump and lights set on a timer. I use a table similar to the one on the left that I built myself. An inexpensive table may be made from a washing machine drain pan and a stand from some PVC pipe and fittings. An Ebb and Flow fittings Kit may be purchased Here. These fittings are sold by several vendors, so shop for the best price. A 100 to 200 gph pump rounds out the setup.

Oasis Cubes© are my preferred media.  I find them easy to work with and I get very good germination.  The Oasis cubes are light weight, inexpensive and unlike Rock Wool, they require no preconditioning to be ready to use. I place one sheet in a 1020 tray on my Ebb and Flow table, seed it and then manually flood the table to soak the sheet. I then squirt each cell with a hand squeeze sprayer to set the seed. 80 to 100 seeds may be planted in about 15 minutes with this method.

Ebb and Flow tables may be used to grow plants out to maturity also. They come in various sizes from 2’x2’ up to 4’x8’.
